DEFINIÇÕES.
I. Os meses *prytaneias* (de pritania) de Harpalo, Méton e Calipo são aqueles que nem sempre alternam entre cheios e cavos, mas às vezes são cheios consecutivamente.
II. O *eniautos prytaneias* é o ano próprio do Magistrado, não do povo, composto de meses *prytaneias*: XII num ano *communis*, mas XIII num *embolimaeus* (embolístico).
III. A *Octaeteris* de Harpalo é um período de oito anos *prytaneias*, com 2924 dias absolutos e XCIX meses *prytaneias*.
IIII. A *Enneadecaeteris* Metônica *prytaneias* é um período de XIX anos, 6940 dias absolutos e CCXXXV meses *prytaneias*.
V. A *Metemptosis Meloniké Iuliana* é a diferença entre a *Enneadecaeteris* Metônica e a Juliana, igual a VI horas.
VI. A *Metemptosis Meloniké Lunaris* é a diferença entre a *Enneadecaeteris* Lunar e a Metônica, igual a 7,485 horas.

CÂNON PRIMEIRO.
Dado o ano e mês de pritania da *Octaeteris* de Harpalo, atribuir à *neomenia* do mês dado o dia do mês popular e o dia juliano.
ADVERTÊNCIA. No quadro da *Octaeteris* de Harpalo, acrescente II a todas as *neomeniae*.
Seja dado o Skirrophórion de pritania harpaleu no ano IIII da *Octaeteris*, cuja *neomenia* deve ser atribuída aos dias julianos. Pela doutrina do Capítulo antecedente, Cânon sexto, saberás qual é a *Octaeteris*, e pela mesma doutrina, com o Gamélion da referida *Octaeteris* ingresso na Tabela do período Calípico do mesmo Capítulo, conta a partir do mesmo Gamélion até o ano proposto, no qual procura o mês popular em cujo dia coincide a *neomenia* de pritania.
Seja, pois, o ano IIII, e o Skirrophórion mês de pritania da primeira *Octaeteris*, cuja *neomenia* de Gamélion coincide com o X dia de janeiro no ano LXXVI do período Calípico, pela doutrina do VI Cânon do Capítulo superior. O quarto ano, portanto, inicia-se no XXII de janeiro no IIII ano do período Calípico popular pelo mesmo Cânon sexto. Skirrophórion no XXIX de junho. No quarto ano proposto, porém, o Skirrophórion de pritania começou no VIII Skirrophórion popular, como tens na primeira Tabela deste Capítulo (acrescentando-se pela regra perpétua II às *neomeniae* de Harpalo). Se a *neomenia* do Skirrophórion popular caiu, como já vimos, em XXIX de junho, então o VIII desse mesmo mês coincide com o sexto de julho. Portanto, o Skirrophórion de pritania do quarto ano proposto na *Octaeteris* de Harpalo cai no sexto de julho. Assim procederás nos demais casos. E, mesmo que eu me cale, pela doutrina do dito Cânon sexto do Capítulo antecedente, o iniciante pode experimentar isto por si mesmo.
CÂNON SEGUNDO.
Dado o ano da *Periodus Iuliana*, que não seja menor que o número 4281, conhecer o ano do ciclo Metônico.
Dos anos da *Periodus Iuliana* que não sejam menores que o número 4281, subtrai o número imediatamente menor na presente Tabela. Seja proposto o ano 4328. Subtraído o número imediatamente menor 4319, resta o ano 9 do terceiro ciclo. Pois dois ciclos se passaram, como é claro do último verso da Tabela, no qual estão postos 2 em frente do número 4319 que subtraíste. Aquele 2, portanto, significa que outros tantos ciclos Metônicos transcorreram.

DEFINITIONS.
I. The *prytaneias* months of Harpalus, Meton, and Callippus are those which do not always alternate between full and hollow, but are sometimes full in succession.
II. The *eniautos prytaneias* is the year proper to the Magistrate, not to the people, consisting of *prytaneias* months: XII in a *communis* year, XIII in an *embolimaeus* (embolismic).
III. The *Octaeteris* of Harpalus is a period of eight *prytaneias* years, 2924 absolute days, and XCIX *prytaneias* months.
IIII. The Metonic *Enneadecaeteris prytaneias* is a period of XIX years, 6940 absolute days, and CCXXXV *prytaneias* months.
V. The *Metemptosis Meloniké Iuliana* is the difference between the Metonic and Julian *Enneadecaeteris*, equal to VI hours.

VII. The Callippic *Hebdomekontahexaeteris prytaneias* is a period of 27759 days, LXXVI complete Julian years, DCCCCXL *prytaneias* months; which simultaneously equate to LXXVI popular years of the Greeks.
FIRST CANON.
Given the year and prytany month of the Harpalean *Octaeteris*, to assign to the *neomenia* of the given month the day of the popular month and the Julian day.
NOTICE. In the table of the Harpalean *Octaeteris*, add II to all *neomeniae*.
Let the Harpalean prytany Skirrophorion in the IIII year of the *Octaeteris* be given, whose *neomenia* must be assigned in Julian days. By the doctrine of the preceding Chapter, sixth Canon, you will know which *Octaeteris* it is, and by the same doctrine, having entered with the Gamelion of the said *Octaeteris* into the Table of the Callippic period of the same Chapter, count from the same Gamelion up to the proposed year, in which seek the popular month on whose day the prytany *neomenia* coincides.
Let then the year be IIII, and Skirrophorion the prytany month of the first *Octaeteris*, whose Gamelion *neomenia* coincides with X January in the LXXVI year of the Callippic period, by the doctrine of the VI Canon of the chapter above. The fourth year therefore begins on XXII January in the IIII year of the popular Callippic period by the same sixth Canon. Skirrophorion on XXIX June. But in the proposed fourth year, prytany Skirrophorion began on the VIII of popular Skirrophorion, as you have in the first Table of this Chapter (with II added by the perpetual rule to the *neomeniae* of Harpalus). If the *neomenia* of popular Skirrophorion fell, as we have already seen, on XXIX June, then the VIII of the same month coincides with the sixth of July. Hence the prytany Skirrophorion of the proposed fourth year in the Harpalean *Octaeteris* falls on the sixth of July. So shall you proceed in other cases. And even with my silence, from the doctrine of the said sixth Canon of the preceding Chapter, the beginner can test this for himself.
SECOND CANON.
Given the year of the *Periodus Iuliana*, not less than the number 4281, to find the year of the Metonic cycle.
From the years of the *Periodus Iuliana* not less than the number 4281, subtract the number nearest below in the present Table. Let the year proposed be 4328. Having subtracted the nearest lesser number 4319, there remains year 9 of the third cycle. For two cycles have passed, as is clear from the last line of the Table, in which 2 is placed opposite the number 4319 which you subtracted. That 2 therefore signifies that just so many Metonic cycles have passed.

Per doctrinam Capitis antecedentis, Canone sexto, scias quota sit Octaeteris, & per eandem doctrinam cum Gamelione dictae Octaeteridos ingressus Tabulam periodi Calippicae eiusdem Capitis numera ab eodem Gamelione, usque ad annum propositum, in quo quaere mensem popularem, in cuius diem conuenit neomenia prytanias.
Esto igitur annus IIII, & Scirrhophorion mensis prytaneias Octaeteridos primae, cuius neomenia Gamelionis convenit X diei Ianuarij anno LXXVI periodi Calippicae, per doctrinam VI Canonis Cap. superioris. Annus igitur quartus init a XXII Ianuarij in IIII anno periodi Calippicae popularis per eundem Canonem sextum. Scirrhophorion XXIX Iunj. In anno vero quarto proposito Scirrhophorion prytaneias caepit a VIII Scirrhophorionos popularis, ut habes in Tabula prima huius Cap. (additis per perpetuam regulam II ad neomenias Harpali) Si neomenia Scirrhophorionos popularis incidit, ut iam vidimus, in XXIX Iunij, ergo VIII eiusdem mensis conuenit sextae Iulij. Proinde Scirrhophorion prytanias anni quarti propositi in Octaeteride Harpalea incidit in sextam Iulij. Ita in caeteris operaberis. Et me tacente ex doctrina dicti Canonis sexti Capitis antecedentis tiro per se haec potest experiri.

Ab annis Periodi Iulianae, qui non sint minores numero 4281, abijce numerum proxime minorem in praesenti Tabula. Esto propositus annus 4328. Abiecto numero proxime minore 4319, relinquitur annus 9 cycli tertij. Nam duo cycli praeterierunt, ut patet ex ultimo versu Tabellae, in quo 2 posita sunt e regione numeri 4319, quem abiecisti.
