CÂNON QUINTO.
Converter anos dados da *Periodus Iuliana* no tempo civil do período ático.
Dos anos propostos da *Periodus Iuliana*, subtraia o número imediatamente menor. O resíduo é o ano do período ático. Dos anos propostos 4713, subtraia o número imediatamente menor, 4659. Restam 54: é o ano do período ático, cuja *neomenia* de Hecatombeon corresponde a 31 de julho.

Ambos a partir do quinto ano do *Cyclus Lunae* [ciclo lunar de 19 anos / Metonico]. E assim como o número imediatamente menor desta Tabela, subtraído dos anos da *Periodus Iuliana*, deixa o ano do período ático, do mesmo modo, subtraindo-se da Tabela do Cânon primeiro o número imediatamente menor dos anos da *Periodus Iuliana*, resta o ano do período olímpico.
CÂNON SEXTO.
Dado um ano da *Periodus Iuliana*, não menor que 4204 nem maior que 4348, saber a *neomenia* de Gamelion na *Octaeteris*.
Tome o número imediatamente menor na Tabela terceira. Se o número for exato, tem-se a *neomenia* de Gamelion na Tabela. Exemplo: se o número for precisamente 4308, a *neomenia* de Gamelion cai no dia 30 de janeiro no ano 28 do período ático, conforme indicado à margem. Mas se houver anos residuais, tome o Gamelion correspondente ao número imediatamente menor e o ano do período à margem, e com isso recorra à Tabela do período calípico, na qual conte os anos anexos a partir daquele Gamelion que corresponde ao ano do período registrado na Tabela. Por exemplo: se o número de anos for 4313, o Gamelion do número imediatamente menor — como já se sabe — é 30 de janeiro, ano 28 do período ático. Na Tabela do período calípico, defronte ao ano 28, ocorre a *neomenia* de Gamelion em 30 de janeiro. É o sexto ano da *Octaeteris*: pois de 4308 a 4313, incluindo o termo, são seis anos. Conte 6 anos a partir de 30 de janeiro, ou a partir do ano 28 do período. O tempo corresponde ao ano 33. *Neomenia* de Gamelion: 13 de janeiro.

CANON FIVE.
To convert given years of the *Periodus Iuliana* into the civil time of the Attic period.
From the proposed years of the *Periodus Iuliana*, subtract the next smaller number. The remainder is the year of the Attic period. From the proposed 4713 years, subtract the next smaller number, 4659. There remains 54: this is the year of the Attic period, whose *neomenia* of Hecatombaion corresponds to 31 July.

SCHOLION. The doctrine is the same for both periods, except that they begin at different points of the Julian *lustrum*, although from the same *Cyclus Lunae*. The Olympic period begins from the second year of the Julian *lustrum* — that is, from the second year after the Julian bissextile; the Attic from the third. Both from the fifth year of the *Cyclus Lunae* [19-year Metonic lunar cycle]. And just as the next smaller number in this Table, subtracted from the years of the *Periodus Iuliana*, leaves the year of the Attic period, so likewise, when the next smaller number is subtracted from the years of the *Periodus Iuliana* in the Table of the first Canon, the year of the Olympic period remains.
CANON SIX.
Given a year of the *Periodus Iuliana*, not less than 4204 nor greater than 4348, to find the *neomenia* of Gamelion in the *Octaeteris*.
Take the next smaller number in the third Table. If the number is exact, you have the *neomenia* of Gamelion in the Table. Example: if the number is precisely 4308, the *neomenia* of Gamelion falls on 30 January in the year 28 of the Attic period, as noted in the margin. But if there are residual years, take the Gamelion of the next smaller number, and the year of the period from the margin, and with it consult the Table of the Callippic period, in which count the years annexed from that Gamelion which corresponds to the year of the period recorded in the Table. Thus, for example, if the number of years is 4313, the Gamelion of the next smaller number — as you already know — is 30 January, year 28 of the Attic period. In the Table of the Callippic period, opposite year 28, the *neomenia* of Gamelion occurs on 30 January. It is the sixth year of the *Octaeteris*: for from 4308 to 4313, inclusive, there are six years. Count 6 years from 30 January, or from year 28 of the period. The time corresponds to year 33. *Neomenia* of Gamelion: 13 January.
