O mesmo também se obterá continuando três anos, dez meses e oito dias a partir do dia 17 antes das Calendas de abril do ano juliano 82. Pois o número termina no dia 9 antes das Calendas de fevereiro do ano juliano 86, o qual era 788 a partir de Nabonassar, 15 de Mequir, dia em que Calígula foi morto e Cláudio começou a reinar. ON THE BEGINNING OF CALIGULA.
Tiberius Caesar was born on the 16th day before the Kalends of December, in the consulship of M. Aemilius Lepidus (for the second time) and L. Munatius Plancus — which was the fourth Julian year, and therefore the seventeenth of the cycle. Therefore, 16 must be added to the years of Tiberius's age to reach the method of the Moon. He died in his 78th year of age, on the 17th day before the Kalends of April, 4 Pharmuthi, on the seventh weekday, in the year 784 from Nabonassar. Hence in the following November the year 79 beginning was due to him. If you combine 16 with 79, you will have lunar cycle 19, in which Tiberius died. ON THE BEGINNING OF CLAUDIUS CAESAR.
Let us test by our method what we were able to investigate by another route. Gaius Caesar Caligula was born, his father being Ti. Julius Caesar Germanicus, in the consulship of [Germanicus] and C. Fonteius Capito, on the day before the Kalends of September, in Julian year 57. The lunar cycle was therefore 13. Accordingly, 12 must be added to Caligula's age by the cycle method. He was killed in his 29th year of age, on the 9th day before the Kalends of February. Adding 12 to 29 and subtracting 19, cycle 3 remains, at Caligula's birthday, the day before the Kalends of September. But the January in which he was killed began the year to which cycle 4 belonged. Therefore Caligula was killed in cycle 4, and in the same cycle the rule of Claudius began. For the count ends on the 9th day before the Kalends of February of Julian year 86, which was 788 from Nabonassar, 15 Mechir, the day on which Caligula was killed and Claudius began to reign. Therefore the beginning of Claudius is from cycle 4 on the 9th day before the Kalends of February, in year 4754 of the Julian Period. This argument is supported by the fifth year of the same Claudius, in which the Sun was eclipsed on the very birthday of the Emperor, that is, on the Kalends of August, in the consulship of M. Vinicius (for the second time) and M. Statilius Corvinus, in year 792 of Nabonassar, 25 Mesore, on the first weekday, 8 Leontonos, in year 3994 from the creation of the world, whose conjunction [Zygon] was at 6h 14m 0s, on September 25.
