Having obtained the character of the neomenia of Zygon, from the Laterculum you will gather the neomeniae of the remaining months, as is evident: no reminder is needed. Therefore, whoever wishes to set the beginning of the year at Zygon — as we do — or at Aegon, let him remember always to subtract 764 years from the Julian Period. The remainder will be the years elapsed. But whoever begins his year at Krion or Karkinon must deduct 765 years, so that the remainder be the years elapsed. If, however, he composes a table of expanded years with the Root implicit, as we have done — since then the expanded year is taken for the current year — for the method of Zygon and Aegon only 763 are to be subtracted, as we have done; but for the method of Krion and Karkinon, 764. This form of the year which we propose — neither better, nor more elegant, nor more secure can be devised — rests upon the observations of the ancients and upon astronomical reasonings. These things being thus noted, the Hemerologium, or Calendar, must be constructed according to the prescription of the Laterculum with a sevenfold column. The first will contain the number of the days of the month; the second, the character of the days; the third, the Lunar Epacts of the Tropical year; the fourth, the Jewish cycle; the fifth, the most capacious of all, the Jewish neomeniae; the sixth, the days of the Julian months; the seventh and last, the Lunar Epacts in the Julian year.
