ANOTHER EXAMPLE. Let the year of the World 5555 be proposed. By the second Canon, the character of the year is 7, which by Scholion ιι of the fourth Canon will be useless for the entire year. The Jewish cycle is VIII, by the sixth Canon. The Jewish month Kislev falls on the XXV day of Zygon (Libra), by the seventh Canon. The days of *ὑπόλειψις* (deficit) 24, together with the 25 days of Zygon, sum to 49 — that is, XIX of Scorpio. Therefore, by the preceding Rule, the locus is in *ἀντικατάστασις*. By the fifth and ninth Canons, in the earlier part of the fourth Table, the common cell is 7. M. 6. But Y, which I had retained by the fifth Canon, is posterior to M; therefore the posterior weekday VI must be taken as the character of Kislev. If that character stands opposite the XIX day of Scorpio, that is the true civil *neomenia* of Kislev, which without doubt appears in the Calendar. Thus, by the doctrine of the same ninth Canon, the XIX day of the month of Scorpio is the *neomenia* of Kislev. But by the rule, the locus is in *ἀντικατάστασις* — that is, because Kislev with the XIX day has exceeded the boundary of Zygon, another month, namely Marcheshvan, must be substituted. In the later part of the fourth Table, in the same common corner, is 5. b. 4. Since Y, which I reserved, is prior to b, the prior weekday, namely V, must be taken. Therefore the *neomenia* of the month of Marcheshvan, which is substituted in the place of Kislev, falls on weekday V. Now, on the XIX of Scorpio, where the true civil *neomenia* of the month of Kislev was found, the *epacta* opposite was XI. If *epacta* XI in the month of Zygon has weekday 5, where the *neomenia* of Marcheshvan must be, there is no doubt that it is the *epacta* equated by the ninth Canon. Otherwise, it will be the preceding or following. But *epacta* 10, and not 11, has the fifth weekday opposite the XX day of Zygon. Therefore, on the XX of Zygon also, there will be the *neomenia* of the substitute month, and the *epacta* equated is 10.
ELEVENTH CANON.
Given the years of the World, to find the local precession in days of the Tropical year.
For the proposed year of the World 5554, collect from this table all the thousands, hundreds, tens, and the expanded past years, and combine the corresponding numbers simultaneously by the first Canon of the first Chapter, as you have in the Diagram subjoined.

But the measure of the sidereal year has not yet been fully explored.
